How can ICT help you?
ICT stands for information and communication technology which loosely translated can sometimes mean trouble. OK, not always, but a sense of humour does help deal with the frustration that can go along with technology, right? Well, that and knowledgeable people to help you figure it all out. At the Department of Family and Community Medicine, we know that ICT has many practical applications for teaching, learning and productivity so we have an ICT office with dedicated time, tools and people to help you save time and produce professional quality, up-to-the-minute content for teaching, learning and academic pursuits. At DFCM the term ICT refers to a set of people and strategies in the Department. The Chair of the ICT committee is Dr. Marcus Law and Brian da Silva is the Educational Multimedia Analyst. Other DFCM people participate in ICT activities as well. Danielle Simpson helps with UTORids and the portal; while Iva Berlekovic is the IT administrator at the central DFCM office, helping us with computers, software and the network. The DFCM website is part of the communications portfolio at DFCM and is managed by Danielle Simpson. The ICT office at DFCM has the expertise and the tools to produce media content using a variety of techniques and styles. ICT has high definition (HD) recording and editing equipment, which means we can shoot and edit all of your educational footage in HD for DVD production and/or uploading to our Portal. We can also create or produce non-video educational content for you using professional graphics, editing and layout software. Have a PowerPoint presentation that you show to your learners at the beginning of every single rotation? Well, we can record your voice and incorporate it into your PowerPoint presentations, and ask your learners to review the media before the rotation starts. There is already high demand for rich media content from learners and teachers, so we have a system to record and produce high-resolution videos and sound. Lastly, we can help you make video conference calls for committee meetings or broadcast your lecture live to any of our GTA, Barrie, Newmarket and rural teaching sites! How can ICT help you? We answer emails at ict.dfcm@utoronto.ca.
