Dr. John Axler, an Assistant Professor at Toronto East General Hospital, has received the 2010 Colin Woolf Award for Long-Term Commitment from the Office of Continuing Education and Professional Development in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. He is the Primary Care Today Course Director and DFCM Director of Continuing Education Projects. Dr. Monica Branigan, an Assistant Professor at St. Joseph's Health Centre, has won the St. Joseph’s Health Centre Best Clinical Award in Family Medicine. Dr. Perle Feldman, an Associate Professor and the postgraduate program director at North York General Hospital has been given the 2011 Enid Johnson MacLeod Award. The Federation of Medical Women of Canada (FMWC) presents this annual award to the nominated member or associate member who is felt to have made the most significant contribution to the promotion of women’s health research and / or women’s health education. The award was established to honour Dr. Enid MacLeod, a long time FMWC member from Nova Scotia, who was best known for her research into the use of curare for anesthesia. Dr. Val Rachlis, an Associate Professor at North York General Hospital, has been recently honoured with the Ontario College of Family Physician’s Jan Kasperski Leadership Award for his exceptional leadership in the pursuit of excellence in Family Medicine in Ontario. Dr. Brian Schwartz, an Associate Professor at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, has won the 2011 Keith Neely Award from the National Association of EMS Physicians for his outstanding contribution to EMS on the international stage. He is the first Canadian to have served on the NAEMSP Board of Directors, as well as chairing a number of committees. Dr. Schwartz led the way for Canadian EMS leaders to participate as part of this important and influential association. Through his efforts, Canadians from across the country now attend and are actively involved in research, and policy decisions that affect paramedics worldwide. His leadership in EMS has been well known in Canada for many years, and with this award he has received international recognition. Your Department wants to celebrate and share your achievements with your colleagues.
